Walker River Camping

We went camping this weekend and had a blast. On Friday afternoon we headed up to Kennedy Meadows. After a late start and lots of pit stops we arrived at our destination a little past dinner time. Our campsite, however, was full and so were the other 8 that we passed on the way up. So after dinner and a little river time at Kennedy Meadows we packed up the grills and headed over the Sonora Pass all the way to Leavitts Meadows. It was close to 10pm by the time we found a spot to camp for the night but the boys were doing great and really looking forward to some smores which make any amount of driving worth while.

Our little tent wasn't really big enough for all of us, so we attempted having Daniel and Vincent sleep in the truck while George and I shared the tent. Plan A was unsuccessful. Party time in the truck. So Vincent ended up sleeping with me while George and Daniel slept in the truck. It was a short but decent night sleep and a beautiful morning at Baker Campground which is right on the river. The boys headed down to the river while I cooked breakfast.

Fishing was the big highlight of our weekend. Daniel couldn't get enough of it. He fished in the water and on dry land, it didn't matter as long as he could cast and reel it back in. He's really good at casting too.

This is how the boys looked about 10 minutes into camping. We hadn't even gotten to our campsite at this point. How fun is dirt!

You just can't eat too many smores.

The Walker river runs through the valley where we camped and right past our campsite. Our drive home gave us absolutely breathtaking views of the Sierra Mountains.

Our evening drive home was so beautiful at sunset followed by a full moon over mountains and valleys recently washed in pouring rain.

At one of our fishing spots, a deer ran by just across the river from us. Look closely in the background of this picture.
While we were gone fishing, the weather turned from a hot, sunny day to thunderstorms. We got back to our camp to find everything drenched: the firewood, the inside of the tent, all of our clothes...we waited out the rain in the back of the truck which Daniel was super excited about. Vincent was asleep for most of the storm and Gavin was at his grandparents for the weekend. Not wanting to spend a cold, wet night crammed in the truck, we decided to head home after dinner. The boys took this news well with the promise of many smores and more camping in the near future.
