Manzanita Lake Hike

Manzanita Lake is on the northeast side of Lassen Park. We camped one night there and enjoyed a beautiful hike along the lake the next day.

Vincent figured he could carry his "gun" in his hat like this, thus keeping his hands free. Brilliant.

When we first arrived at the lake, the boys went playing along the lake edge. Vincent stepped out with his fishing pole to what he thought was the shoreline. It turned out to be and vast pine cone landfill in that one spot. I poked my head out the door as I fixed PB&Js to see why V was calling his dad. He was up to his waste in muddy pine cone water. It was cold. George saved the day. He took a shower on the outside of the motor home, complete with hot water!





Daniel and George walked way out on this fallen tree into the serene waters of Manzanita Lake. The fall colors were gorgeous.
The boys found this cave on our hike. There were even hooks where they could hang their hats.


We met the nicest ranger at the museum nearby who showed us a movie about volcanoes. There are many different types of volcanoes represented in Lassen. It was really cool and they boys learned alot and loved seeing the hot lava flow on screen. We bumped into the same ranger on our hike and she took or family photo then told us about the lava cave that we would visit next.
