The Coast

We meant to camp somewhere around Big Sur for the weekend. But having no reservations is a mistake in July on the CA coast. So we played for awhile, then drove, and drove, and drove. I think George was enjoying the drive.

We finally stopped after dark at a vista point. It was a large parking lot, and thankfully we didn't get kicked out. We slept (an hour or so at a time) to the sound of waves crashing, interrupted hourly by a crying two year old. Ahh, relaxing first night...more to come. He had a cold...then asthma...and no meds.
When we woke up the next morning, we explored the vista. It turned out to be a really cool place called Point Piedras Blancas. It's a recent Elephant Seal colony and there are thousands that lived there. We walked to the end of the parking lot and could see hundreds, sleeping, playing in the water, shoveling sand on themselves, barking and biting. There were little babies too. It was a fun surprise. They didn't smell too good though.
