Tonight, Vincent got poked endlessly by 5 nurses and a doctor. No one could get the IV in. So we're going with plan B tonight. He got a double shot of one of the antibiotics, then he needs oral doses of the other two. Apparently they taste really bad so we're unsure of how much he'll take and how effective they will be compared to the IV dose. Please pray that tomorrow we'll be able to get the IV in. Vincent's infection spread rapidly in a few days from his ear to the mastoid bone behind his ear. During the surgery last night the Dr. drained an abscess, then scraped away some bone that was infected as well. It looks possible from the CT scan that the infection has even spread passed the bone into the brain. The antibiotics are needed to combat this infection and he's not getting the full doses and we're behind on them.
We are quickly learning how important it is for us to advocate and be assertive about what Vincent needs. We are asking God for wisdom in how to handle our job in all of this, not really having the medical knowledge but needing to take an active role in the care he receives.
It's almost midnight and Vincent was exhausted after all the poking, he drifted off in the treatment room right before he got Rocephin shots. Then we brought him back to his bed where he was drifting off, but then he decided to play. So he's acting all goofy and talking and smiling right now. He just couldn't be any cuter. The poor guy has been through such an ordeal today.

We are still praying. Kaitlyn keeps asking what the little boy's name is who is in the hospital. Then she asks "can we pray for him now".

You guys are in our prayers and little Vincent! I will be praying for your wisdom and strength in the wee hours and as his advocate. Not sure if a Child Life person has come at all but sometimes they can be really helpful too with all the pokes, and just helping a little one deal with this stuff. Love you guys!
Will try to visit to hug you in the next several days if you want visitors. That can be overwhelming sometimes too depending on the timing so will see. Just know we are with you in thoughts and prayers.

Is there any possibility for there to do the iv in his head? After 8 failed attempts with jordis (in hands and feet) they finally got it in the head. We wish they would have suggested that FIRST because it was so much easier to do. She was only 8 weeks old so was not pulling it out (as vincent might) but at least talk to them about that. It looks freaky but it works. And it sounds like it is really important to get the iv flowing ASAP. Perhaps you have already discussed this, but wanted to throw it out there just in case. Like you said, You need to be your own advocate. Praying for you.
I just LOVE your percious boy! Becky, I am blown away by your perspective in all of this! You are truly seeing God's hand in any and every area that you could possibly see Him- AMEN! This is such an incredible blessing! Your willingness to see God's presence instead of His absence in awesome! We are praying. My dad is praying, his small group is praying. I love you!
